TURBOSQUID CONVERSION SERVICE DOES NOT OFFER CONVERSION OF THIS MODEL TO ANY OTHER FORMAT TO THE LEVEL OF COMPARABLE RENDER QUALITY. CONVERSION TO ANY OTHER FORMAT WOULD MEAN REWORK FROM THE SCRATCH, EXCEPT MASHES AND TEXTURES.
The Moon color map is based on the NASA Clementine mission map while the normal map is based on NASA LRO DEM map.
Original NASA simple cylindrical maps are not reprojected anyhow to another projection type, so comparison of real photo vs Lightwave 3D render is achieved by using orthographic camera.
Final results can be seen on the pictures and video. The Earth on the images and in the video is NOT part of the scene and can be purchased separately.
All images are rendered with the default LightWave 3D render. Its a fast rendering scene. It takes less than 1 min for 1920x1080 per frame for close up shot (on Quad Core i7).
Video presentation is available on my YouTube and Vimeo channel (Tomaz Bertoncelj). You can also download it in Previews.
- linear colorspace
- 1 sphere with basic UV map with real Moon declination to ecliptic plane (ie. the extent to which the Moon is tilted to the Sunlight)
- dynamic day/night according to Sun position
- scale 1:100
*Earth is not part of this scene and is present only for presentation purposes.
Zip file includes (3,2 GB zip):
- Clementine 8bit Gray map 28k
- Normal map 8bit 56k and 72k, based on LRO DEM 16bit
Note that in current LightWave 3D version 72k Normal map does not deliver any visual improvements compared to 56k normal map.
All textures above are compressed TIFF.
Texture source: NASA
HOW TO USE:
Open in LightWave 3D 2015 or higher version. Tested in LightWave 3D 2015.
