This is a scale model of the Ak-47 assault rifle. Each piece is modeled, and built to scale with the real world counterpart rifle.
Meticulous detail was taken in measuring a real Ak-47 to give the most accurate model possible of the overall gun, but also the detail of the trigger assembly, gas port, and bolt and bolt carrier.
This model was created from a semi-automatic Romanian manufactured rifle, so there are a few minor differences from the original Kalashnikov design. Educated guesses were used to create the double pinned trigger, sear, full auto sear and sear spring - the pieces that differentiate a full auto version from a semi-auto version.
There are two pieces that were created for this model that do not exist on the real counterpart. The first is at the rear of the receiver that connects to the buttstock. I could not disassemble the gun far enough to measure, so this is a best guess as to what the piece looks like. The other is at the front of the barrel assembly. The piece that hangs down in the front is not part of the real barrel assembly, it was added to make the model “hold water” between the lower foregrip and the receiver/barrel assembly. The foregrip was measured, but it did not close the small gap between the receiver/barrel assembly and the lower foregrip.
The model was created in Lightwave 9.3.1, and also Lightwave 9.6.1. There are 68,273 polygons in this model.
A Lightwave object file and an .OBJ file are included, as well as a folder containing individual .OBJ files of each piece of the gun for easy separation and identificaion. Each download - Lightwave or OBJ - contain a zip file with both of the versions.
There are no texture maps included in this file. The only texture used was that of the wood of the hand grips and butt stock, and it was from within Lightwave's provided content. Most any wooden texture should work, with light color tweaks.
