Description
The PLA Naval Aviation operates a mixed fleet of the French-made AS 565 Panther and the indigenous Z-9C naval helicopters. The AS 565 Panther is the naval variant of the AS 365N Dauphin II developed by Eurocopter in France for shipborne anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and search and rescue (SAR) missions. The Z-9C was developed from the Z-9, a Chinese copy of the AS 365N Dauphin II built by Harbin Aircraft Manufacture Corporation (HAMC) for search & rescue (SAR), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), and anti-ship missile guidance roles. The Z-9C and the AS 565 are not directly associated, though they share the same design based on the AS 365N Dauphin II. (Information from Sinodefence)
