A rare example of classic form, the broad, fullered blade forged of actively-grained wootz damascus steel, the pattern visible overall. Intricately inlaid gold panels to both sides of the blade, including a triangular section to either forte, with an additional curvilineal motif on the left, and on the right a partially effaced cartouche inscribed, Mash' Allah (God's Blessing) followed by a lengthy cartouche inscribed, WORK OF 'ASBEK(?) OWNER MALIK 'ALI BEK and what appears to be a date, perhaps 1117 (1700 c.e.) or 1125 (1712/13 c.e.) The spine finely chiseled with panels. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with embossed, chased and pierced gilt-silver mounts. Early 18th century. Minor wear to gold inlay, small repair to one grip, the scabbard recovered, a small hole at the base of the fuller originally set with precious stones, now lacking. Overall length 80.5 cm, blade 59.3 cm. Condition III
