The rifle is constructed of a mix of steel, aluminium, titanium and fibreglass intended to provide maximum strength with minimum weight. The bullpup layout of the rifle (trigger unit is ahead of the magazine and firing mechanism) allows for a 65cm barrel in a weapon of only 99cm length. The barrel is free floated and attached to the receiver by three locking screws. The bolt of the rifle has six locking lugs, which provides an exceptionally tight, rigid and strong bolt lock. These factors contribute to the extreme accuracy of the DSR, reported to be in excess of 0.2 MOA. The in-line layout of the rifle keeps the barrel lined up with the shooter’s shoulder, minimizing muzzle climb. The DSR has a full length hard mounted accessory rail, allowing for the use of telescopic sights as well as ancillary sighting equipment such as night vision, thermal or infrared systems.
The DSR also comes equipped with an adjustable bipod and rear monopod, double chamber muzzle brake, three position safety, adjustable two-stage trigger, adjustable fore-end and a spare magazine holder in front of the trigger. The modular design of the rifle allows easy interchange of barrels, even changing the calibre of the rifle is quick and easy with a new barrel and bolt.
The AMP DSR is supplied from single stack box magazines containing 5 rounds each. The rifle is 99cm in length and weighs 5.9kg unloaded without a scope.
