Akershus Fortress is situated in Oslo, on the eastern side of the Oslo Fjord on the Akersnes peninsular. The castle was constructed in the 13th century as a medieval stronghold by King Håkon V. Later the castle was converted into a renaissance castle and the fortifications were extended. Today the rooms are used by the Norwegian Government for receptions and other official functions. The castle complex is also home to the Norwegian Resistance Museum.
