LONGHOUSE by OpusPolygonum ==================================================================================================== Intro ====================================================================================================
This model is a hypothetical reconstruction of the rural domestic structures used by the Germanic tribes in Northern Europe and Scandinavia during the Migration Period. Spanning the transition from Late Antiquity to the Early Middle Ages, it is more famously known for the barbarian invasions which contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
The Longhouse was often a dual purpose structure, and generally included both a living area for a family group along with space for the family cattle. Perhaps the most famous builders of these types of structures were the Vikings.
The reconstruction is based on evidence and reconstructions presented in the book 'Early Medieval Settlements: The Archaeology of Rural Communities in North-West Europe 400-900' by Helena Hamerow. A full bibliographical reference for the book is provided further down.
I am a Roman archaeologist, not a Medievalist. If you are and would like a more accurate model made, please feel free to contact me (with evidence - 'I saw it in a movie' or 'I saw it on Wikipedia' doesn't count).
This model is provided in various file formats, each of which has been tested. It has been made so it will run in real-time applications such as games, and is therefore low-poly. Alpha, Diffuse and Normal Maps are included as JPEG's.
The statistics for the model in the .max file are:
-Polygon/Triangle count: 15,125 -Vertex Count: 9,679 -13 Standard materials -25 textures 1024x1024 or less (13 Diffuse, 11 Normal, 1 Alpha)
If there are any problems with any of the files, please contact me and I will fix them for you and update the versions on TurboSquid.
