This residential house was built and designed by the architect Hugo Licht between 1872-1873. It was situated in the Kurfuerstenstrasse 55 in Berlin.
It is a rich decorated building that presents an exiting color contrast between the elements made of light sandstone and the surface of facing bricks.
The natural colored earthenware called “Sgraffito” and “Majoliken” ties to a tradition of the renaissance and became a famous and characteristic decoration after 1870 in Berlin. “Sgraffito” means a white drawing on a black or brown underground.
There are “Sgrafitto” and “Majolika”- decorations from Vienna on the top story and between the ground and the first floor showing Italian artists and poets.
