The HK45 was designed for the U.S. Military Joint Combat Pistol program and is based on HK USP pistols and 9mm HK P30 pistol. The Joint Combat Pistol program was suspended in 2006.Heckler & Koch eventually decided to make the HK45 available on the commercial market.
