The FN P90 is a 5.7mm submachine gun intended for use as a PDW Personal Defence Weapon by troops such as vehicle crews that do not traditionally carry a full size rifle. The P90 fires 5.7x28mm rounds designed to better penetrate body armour than traditional pistol cartridges. The small size of the cartridge allows the P90 to carry 50 rounds in a box magazine along the top of the weapon.

The polymer construction, magazine position and bullpup layout of the P90 lend it an unusual appearance. The P90 is fully ambidextrous, and features an integral optical reflex sight and laser pointer.

The P90TR is a variant of the standard P90 that features a modified receiver assembly with three accessory rails. There is one full length rail on top of the receiver for mounting optics, and two stub rails on either side for accessories. This P90TR features an Aimpoint Comp M4 red dot sight, tactical light and visible laser sight on the accessory rails. It also features a Gemtech SP90 sound suppressor.

Despite its original intended use, the P90 has found favour as a primary weapon for Special Forces and assault teams. The high rate of fire, short length, large magazine capacity as well as good penetrating capabilities make the P90 ideal for close quarters combat.
The P90 weighs 2.5kg empty and holds 50 rounds of 5.7x28mm ammunition. It has a rate of fire of 900rpm and an effective range of 200m.
