General Information:
The flare pistol is a single shot, break action tool used to launch 12ga signal flares. Though a variety of flares can be used, the most common are white parachute flares with a 'full visibility burn' of 6-7 seconds. Although some jurisdictions consider the flare pistol a dangerous weapon, many continue to classify the flare pistol as a maritime signal device.
