The North American Aviation P-51 is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II, the Korean War and other conflicts. Originally designed to use the Allison V-1710 engine, which had limited high-altitude performance. The addition of the RR Merlin to the P-51B/C model transformed the performance at altitudes above 15,000 ft, matching or bettering that of the Luftwaffe's fighters.
The model is in the colors of Lt. Col. James Howard's Ding Hao. Col Howard became an ace flying with the AVG Flying Tigers over Burma, was commanding officer of the 354th Fighter Group and the only pilot awarded the Medal of Honor in Europe during WW2.
